What is laser therapy or photo bio modulation ?

Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a non-invasive therapy inflammation while enhancing stem-cell proliferation and tissue repair.
Transcranial photobiomodulation is a therapy that uses Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) to stimulate cellular function and support neurological health with specific wavelengths of light. Peer-reviewed medical research (see Sources & References, below) has documented that this type of therapy can help those with the following conditions:
- Autism
- ADHD
- Sensory Processing Disorder
- Traumatic brain injury
- Spinal cord damage
- Diabetes
- Mitochondrial dysfunction
- Dermatological conditions
- Oral irritation
Transcranial photobiomodulation can:
- Lower neuroinflammation
- Decrease pain
- Enhance stem-cell proliferation
- Improve tissue repair
- Increase oxygen delivery to the brain
- Regulate immune function
- Improve reflex integration
- Increase brain connectivity
- Improve mitochondrial function
- Improve gut health
- Calm the central nervous system
- Improve blood flow to the brain
- Improve vagal tone
It is
- Non – invasive
- Non – ionizing
- Generally non-thermal
Light meets the Mitochondria
Inside nearly every cell within the body are structures called mitochondria
Think of them as the cells energy centres. Certain wavelengths of light may be absorbed by light sensitive molecules associated with the mitochondrial respiratory system – particularly an enzyme called cytochrome c oxidase
What happens ?
When the light is absorbed , it can influence cellular signalling and mitochondrial activity. Researchers are studying effects that may include
- Changes to ATP Production
- Releaase of nitric oxide
- Antioxidants responses
- Modulation of inflammatory signaling
- Changes in gene expression
Why is ATP important
ATP is the energy – carrying molecule cells use to complete everyday functions. Cells need ATP to
- Communicate
- Maintain and repair tissue
- Transport substances
- Respond to stress
- Support normal cellular activity
This is one reason mitochondria are central to PBM research.
What does the research say ?
PBM has been studied in areas including :
- Neurological and brain related applications
- Pain and Inflamation
- Tissue repair and wound healing
- Muscle recovery
- Oral and dental conditions
